Magnetic micro-transformers realized with a flip-chip process

چکیده
Micromachined transformers are complex devices. Conductors, insulators and magnetic materials are manufactured on the same substrate, thus leading to transformer structures often with many manufacturing levels. We describe here a new low cost solution to make quasi-planar transformer structures. The primary and secondary coils are manufactured separately and assembled by flip-chip technology. This novel structure allows a single conductor level process. The influence of different parameters of the design on expected performances is discussed. A set of transformers was made with 1 μm thick Al conductors to assess the process validity. First measurements were carried out. A current mode operation was tested and showed an output voltage proportional to the operation frequency up to 10 MHz. Tests were carried out under no-load conditions and with resistive load (1 k and 470 values). A resonance mode appeared for frequency above 15 MHz but was not measured.

In applications for high-Tc superconducting DC-SQUIDs such as biomagnetism, nondestructive evaluation and the relaxation of magnetic nanoparticles, it is important to maintain reliable sensor performance over an extended time period. We designed and produced DC-SQUID gradiometers based on YBa2Cu3O7−x (YBCO) thin films which are inductively coupled to a flux transformer to achieve a higher sensi...

This paper presents a design study of a new topology for miniaturized bondwire transformers fabricated and assembled with standard IC bonding wires and toroidal ferrite (Fair-Rite 5975000801) as a magnetic core. The microtransformer realized on a PCB substrate, enables the build of magnetics on-top-of-chip, thus leading to the design of high power density components. Impedance measurements in a...
متن کاملHTS dc-SQUID flip-chip magnetometers and gradiometers
Biomagnetic research requires measuring systems with the utmost sensitivity to magnetic fields. The strongest challenge is fMEG measurements with a typical (20 – 200) fT peak-to-peak signal magnitude. An average R-wave magnitude of a fMCG signal is ∼2 pT. Measuring in a frequency bandwidth of about 100 Hz with a signal-to-noise ratio of ∼10 demands a system noise for fMCG measurements ∼20 fT/√H...

In both concepts media separation is realized using a steel membrane. The two concepts represent two different strategies for packaging of devices for use in harsh environments and at high temperatures. ...
